Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

November 19th, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today Show’s Ann Curry is climbing up Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro (See more info on her journey). She’s realizing that this is no walk in the park. Curry, who turned 52 today, is doing this climb as part of the show’s ‘Ends of the Earth’ series. The goal is to make it to the summit of the 19,000-plus-foot Tanzanian mountain. If she does, she should reach it by Friday. However, many of the climbers, her included, have developed altitude sickness, which basically means a slight swelling of the brain. Because of this, they’ve had to halt their expedition in order to let their bodies adjust. We’ll keep an eye on this.

Side note: The mountain was made famous in Ernest Hemingway’s short story “The Snows of Kilimanjaro.”

On the subject…

Climbing a mountain is much like any business, there are obstacles we face daily. The question is how can we overcome them? For some the obstacle might be the economy, maybe the elevator’s broken and you now have to take the stairs (to the 15th floor), or perhaps the company needs to learn how to work as a team more efficiently–or even seeking guidance in adapting to change.

Here are some great keynote speakers that have climbed the mountains…literally.
